Arrive in Algeria’s vibrant capital. After a warm welcome, stroll through the narrow alleys of the UNESCO-listed Kasbah — a maze of Ottoman palaces, mosques, and artisan workshops. End the evening with a welcome dinner of Algerian cuisine overlooking the Bay of Algiers, grounding your adventure in culture before the desert.
Fly south across the Sahara to Djanet, a palm-dotted oasis town at the foot of the Tassili plateau. Settle into a guesthouse and prepare for the expedition. In the evening, meet your Tuareg guides over mint tea and music, a gentle introduction to life in the desert.
Begin your 4×4 convoy into the UNESCO World Heritage park. Explore Tikoubaouine’s surreal rock “forests” and hike to hidden galleries of prehistoric art, including the famed “Crying Cow” engraving. Camp under a wide desert sky, with dinner served by your camp chef around the fire.
Journey deeper into the plateau, trekking through sandstone canyons to Essendilene, a lush guelta (desert pool) fringed with tamarisk trees. Swim or simply rest by the cool waters before continuing to meet nomadic families who still roam the region. Learn about Tuareg traditions of storytelling and survival over shared tea. Another night in the wild, with the Milky Way blazing above.
Drive across sweeping golden dunes where caravans once passed. Climb a dune at sunset for panoramic views stretching to infinity. Tonight, your camp is set amidst the sand sea — a perfect silence broken only by the wind.
After days in the wilderness, return to Djanet. Refresh with a hot shower and enjoy an authentic local dinner of Saharan specialties in a comfortable guesthouse. Stroll the oasis market for Tuareg silver and leather crafts.
Morning flight back to Algiers. Depending on your schedule, enjoy a guided museum visit (such as the Bardo with its Roman mosaics) or shop for handcrafted souvenirs before your onward flight home.
